Anna Sui

Anna Sui grew up in Dearborn, Michigan where she began to fall in love with the music that would later inspire her clothing. She idolized people like Marianne Faithfull and Anita Pallenberg. After leaving Michigan to attend Parsons, she worked on junior sportswear lines before working on her own. During the 80s she would meet important people who would later be influential in her career like Steven Meisel, Christy Turlington, and Naomi Campbell. They would in 1991 convince her to put on her first fashion show. The show was well received by buyers and critics. She would later help revive New York fashion by bringing rock n' roll fashion style past and present to the fashion world. Her grunge babydoll dresses and vintage print frocks would be her signature. Now Sui is a brand that retails globally in over 50 countries and garners the respect of critics and fans around the world.

  1. It's so interesting to me that she waited almost a decade to have her first fashion show.
